Girls Basketball Preview

We recently connected with Girls Basketball Head Coach Shawn Koehler to talk about this year’s girls basketball team.  He is excited about the outlook of this year’s team.  Here is what he shared with us about the team, their competition and the key players on this year’s team.
After a  rebuilding 6-16 season last year, which we finished 5th in league, we are looking to rebound with a senior laden team.We had a very good summer and in Palm Springs went 4-1 in very competitive tournament this summer.
We didn’t lose anyone to Graduation last year.We will suit up 5 Seniors 2 juniors 1 sophomore and 2 freshman.
Our league as well is going to be very competitive with Orcutt Academy, Morro Bay and new comer St Joes looking to be very good. Here’s a look at the players
Senior and 4 year letter winner Ashley Hurdle –  she will headline a very defensively minded team with her ruthless man on man coverage.

Senior Hannah Clark – our leading scorer and spark plug she really has matured own this year her shot selection and seeing the floor have greatly improved.
Senior and 4 year letter winner Hope Erwin – she worked hard on shooting and her presence is always felt in the middle very strong physical girl.
Senior Korah Lipsit – she is very good defender and her speed allows her to get to the basket and get to the line.
Senior Rain Garcia – she worked hard this summer and her shot has really came along we will be using her for a lot of our longer shot plays and she has shown great leadership quality’s.
Junior Jordyn Galles – she worked very hard over the summer with former player and professional oversees player Mari Stewart who developed her post moves, we look for big things in the paint from Jordyn.
Junior Cloey Gouin – she had a good summer as well, she will help us in defense situations, and her shot has really improved after this summer.
Sophmore Ashlyn Janzen – She is coming off a really good freshman year we are looking for big things here, a really well rounded player who keep s getting better every practice, this summer she had some very good games and it helped her confidence tremendously watch out for this one.
New comers:
Freshman Mellissa Takata –  she’s a tremendous ball handler for her age, she sees the floor as good as anyone Ive ever coached and very unselfish distributor, look for big things from her the next 4 years.
Freshman Nyianni Mathis – great athlete super fast stong girl very good in man coverage and has a nice shot, expect too see a lot of her even with a senior heavy team.
Conclusion –  We are excited this year the improvement we saw this summer should set us up for a run at league this is a fast athletic team who should be able to defend anyone.
Thank you Coach Koehler.  Come on out and support our girls as they represent our team and community.  Go Eagles.
