Each year THS students work with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program as a way to share with others in need. This year THS was given 15 students from our county who ranged in age from newborns to 16 year olds who were in special need of a blessing this holiday season. Within a few minutes at our Angel Tree information meeting those kids were claimed and they have a special treat coming their way.
For those of you unfamiliar with the program, Angel Tree is a holiday program designed to raise in-kind gifts to assist families who are in crisis as a result of medical issues, unemployment, homelessness, medical issues or other difficult circumstances and who otherwise wouldn’t have the resources to celebrate Christmas.
Companies, families, and other groups who wish to participate as donors in The Salvation Army Angel Tree program are provided with Angel Tree tags. These tags can be placed on a Christmas tree as if they were ornaments, or they can be distributed to donors by other means. Employees, customers, and/or guests then take a tag and purchase the item(s) requested.
At THS we are so thankful for our students – they demonstrate hard work in the classroom, sportsmanship on the court but just as important is the compassion and empathy that they show to others even people they won’t even meet.
