Templeton High and Templeton Middle School drama students hit the road yesterday to watch the PCPA production of The Little Mermaid. This was a great opportunity for our students to see a live, professional production. Besides enjoying the artistry it gave our students the opportunity to learn about house management, set and costume design, choreography, vocal abilities and more.
“I loved the detail in every character’s costume, it really brought the show to life. It was so obvious that everyone was dedicated to their roles.” — THS freshman Abby Cook
This production also had some unique circus type elements including acrobatics and aerial tricks. Director Melissa Rain Anderson and New York City’s 2 Ring Circus collaborated to bring breathtaking aerial feats to this spectacular holiday production.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved story and the Disney animated film, The Little Mermaid tells a tale of longing, love and sacrifices, as princess Ariel risks everything to join her prince on land. Meet the majestic King Triton and the malevolent sea witch Ursula, as a host of Ariel’s undersea friends and enemies battle to rule the future in an adventure that will capture your heart. This magical musical included such irresistible hits as: “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World,” along with 10 new songs.
This has been a big week for our drama department. Ms. Kingsbury brought professional performer Gale McNeely who shared his 45 years of performing experience through a workshop for our theater and drama students. Also this week students are auditioning for this year’s spring play The Drowsy Chaperone.
