“Over the two day tournament, my team adapted and fought really hard as a team to win. We put in the effort and grew closer while doing it.” — Hope Erwin
The Eagles opened against a strong San Marcos team who was 12-2 and played tough but came up just short with a 27-21 loss Friday night. But that was the only loss the Eagles would take in the tournament. They knocked off the Orosi High Cardinals 32-25, then Foothill High Trojans 34 – 18. With these two wins the Eagles advanced to the Consolation Championship game against Delano High Tigers. It was a tight game, but the Eagles brought home the Bronze Division Consolation Championship with a 35-27 victory.
Hope Erwin, who was named to the All-Tournament team, shared, “… Over the two day tournament, my team adapted and fought really hard as a team to win. We put in the effort and grew closer while doing it.”
“With these last three wins going into league, we are going in the right direction.” – Coach Shawn Koehler
Coach Shawn Koehler said, “We faced much larger teams with higher attendance, in this tournament. We started off slow with Christmas break. The girls showed improvement in the last few games.
Defensively we are doing what we want to do, holding the other teams to around 30 pts. Offensively we are struggling. We showed improvement with our hustle and found a way to win.
With these last three wins going into league, we are going in the right direction.”
