Someone You Should Meet: Ashley Lewis

You may know THS senior Ashley Lewis at school as one of the Link Crew leaders,  a “Wingman”, an athlete or just someone in one of your classes.   She is all of those things, but what you may not know is that she is also the President of the District 7 Rodeo team. She is president of the entire district and is amazing at it!

Ashley became president through a nomination process and then was elected through a district wide vote. Ashley has multiple responsibilities such which include running the district meetings once a month, making the monthly agenda, getting approvals, and helping prepare for the next rodeos. She is also in charge of having meetings the mornings of rodeos, and carrying the flag in grand entry.

Ashley’s events in rodeo are pole bending, breakaway roping, team roping, and cutting. In addition to being president, she has also been the pole bending director for the past three years.

Ashley is a great president. She is always there to help no matter what the situation. You can always count on Ashley for things to go right.” – Shaylee Baxley, THS Freshman

Ashley says the best part about being president is getting the opportunity to help oversee how the rodeos are run.  “I have met a lot of great people through this and I have learned a lot about what it means to step up and be involved,” she said.

THS Rodeo Team

Ashley’s favorite thing about rodeo is the friendly atmosphere. Ashley states, “Though we are all competitive and want to win, District 7 is like a family and we all support each other no matter what.”

“Ashley is very responsible and caring, she is always there to help anyone who needs it.” – Blayne Twisselman, THS Senior

Ashley says, “Next year, I will miss my best friends the most. We have grown up rodeoing together for as long as I can remember, it will be hard knowing that we will no longer be able to make memories through District 7 anymore.”

And while rodeo is a big part of Ashley’s life she still finds time to be make a difference through other groups in which she impacts the culture and climate at THS.

For the last two years she has been a member of Link Crew, an elective class which is made up of a group of mostly upperclassmen who serve as mentors for our freshman class.  Through events, activities and spending time with their freshmen Link Leaders serve as  guides for our youngest Eagles.  This year she serves as the Link Crew President.  She is an amazingly positive person whose love for others is evident in her actions.

“Ashley is an invaluable member of the Link Crew family.  It has been said that, ‘A leader knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.’  Ashley lives that out in every group, team and relationship she has.” — Mr. Mac, Link Crew Advisor

She is also a member of the Wingmen, the THS student spirit group, that are prominently seen at THS athletic events.  Their energy, spirit, and enthusiasm at games has helped them to be seen as the best spirit section in the county.  They were recently nominated for a national spirit award by Varsity Brands.

If you are interested in joining the THS rodeo team and are interested in being apart of D7, we recommend looking at our district website for the paperwork that is required to fill out, then contact our athletic trainer Coach Franklin. You are also always welcome to talk to Ashley if you have any other questions!
