THS Nominated for National Spirit Award

Each year Varsity Brands selects schools from across the nation to honor in a number of different categories but all related in one way or another to school spirit.  Varsity Brands have as their mission  to “Partner with Schools to Elevate the Student Experience in Sport, Spirit, and Achievement.”

To be considered in one of a variety of categories a school can nominate itself or be nominated by a community member of representative of the Varsity Brands organization.  Templeton High was nominated by Kristin Feavel, a long time community member who has been involved in spirit and sports locally and beyond for a number of years and whose children have attended Templeton Schools.  After attending a football games this year and witnessing the work of the Wingmen and others she noticed “evolution of spirit that has happened at the school over the last few years, and how it has ignited so quickly through strategic and passionate leadership by administration and students alike.”  She pointed out the students section, the tailgates, the human tunnel, pushup boards and others things that have become a tradition at the school and that have demonstrated the spirit and culture at THS.

With Kristin’s nomination sent to the Varsity Brands selection committee THS was notified that they were nominated for their “Game Day Experience”.  To advance a school must show how their “game day experience” involves and impacts not just those on the field – band, cheer, and the team – but also those off the field including, spirit squads, parents and the community at large.

After creating a video to highlight what we do and submitting letters of recommendation and documentation whether or not THS moved on to the finals was left to a panel of Varsity Brands judges that would evaluate submission by schools from across the nation.  Earlier this week THS was notified that we have made the finals of this national competition.  Listed alphabetically here are the 10 finalists for the nation’s best “Game Day Experience”:

We are so proud of our Wingmen, our students, faculty, staff, parents, fans and community members who all had a part in helping THS be such a spirited place.  We look forward to May 9th.
