Each month our coaches recommend athletes that truly exemplify excellence, who are role models on campus and demonstrate all that we appreciate on the field and on the court. This month’s “Athletes of the Month” are (L to R) Abe Glossner, Maddox Watson, Gabriel Soltero and Lauryn Simons. Read below what their coaches had to say about each one of them.
GABRIEL SOLTERO, Freshman, JV/Varsity Boys’ Soccer
Head Coach Dale Wiggins: Gabriel was invited to travel with the varsity team to the Garces Tournament and in one of the games, he scored the golden goal in overtime to win the game. He was recently pulled up to the varsity squad and performed very well at that level. He is very coachable and works hard every game.
LAURYN SIMONS, Senior, Varsity Girls’ Soccer
Head Coach Mario Perez: Lauryn Simons has been a key member of the Varsity Soccer team for the past 4 years. She is a talented player, but more so, she is a true team player. She has an outstanding work ethic, demonstrates good character and sportsmanship, and always gives 100% effort during conditioning, practices, and games. Lauryn is a great example of what a student-athlete should be. Not only is she a very good student of the game, she works hard to maintain her grades. Her “never give up” attitude is a tremendous asset to the team. Lauryn performs leadership tasks as a captain of her soccer team as well as being a great friend to her teammates. As a Team Captain, she leads by example and is well liked and respected by her teammates, teachers and coaches. Lauryn is a great person and will be very hard to replace next year.
MADDOX WATSON, Freshman, JV Boys’ Basketball
Head Coach Nick Phillips: Maddox is consistent and improved all season long while being a great teammate. He started most of the season at point guard and never missed a game. He even adapted and changed positions this season which was necessary for the team. He grew a lot over the course of the season!
ABE GLOSSNER, Junior, Varsity Boys’ Soccer
Head Coach Dale Wiggins: Abe is one of the backbones of our team. He did a great job helping to control the mid-field by creating attacks for us and shutting down the attacks from opposing teams. Abe is an all-around strong soccer player with great ball skills and an excellent understanding of the game. He practices and plays with heart and is a great teammate. I appreciate his dedication and hard work and I look forward to his return next year.
Thank you THS Athletic Booster Club and Chulo’s for sponsoring the luncheon to celebrate each of our “Athletes of the Month”.
